Connelly has give the lead character Bosch a very deep and complex character, reminiscent of Robert Crais' Elvis Cole. Connelly does excellent work in delivering the back story of Bosch's Vietnam days without revealing too much, giving you just enough and leaving you with the desire to learn more about him. Looking forward to the next in the series. The first of the Harry Bosch series and is based on a true event. The author, Michael Connelly, does a good job but does better with some of the books that come later in the series. I read this one on the way to Hawaii. I have fond memories of it. Harry Bosch is now at Hollywood Homicide after being chased down by Internal Affairs re a shooting on his previous case. A simple dead body on a Sunday afternoon though turns out to be an old "friend" from his days in Vietnam as a tunnel rat. Did he find himself there on purpose or just by bad luck? Harry does not believe it is an OD and chases down the few clues he finds at the crime scene. This leads him to linking up with the FBI and the previous years tunnelling into a major bank where jewels and safe deposit boxes were robbed. But how does this link to the dead body? Who else is involved? And will the Internal Investigation that has started up on him again mean that he will be thrown off the force? This is a book you can lose yourself in and at the end you do click onto the last twist in the plot and want it to be reached. Though overall a good read, one to enjoy and never take too seriously as you know what the genre is and the style of book when you begin. Have fun with it though! no reviews | add a review
