I prefer more eloquently written books, but for what I expected, it held my interest. ( )Bailey takes off with her pilot Cam for a vacation but, just as they are over some particularly rough mountains, the engine shuts off and only Cam's superior piloting skills allow them to survive the crash. Once back on his feet, Cam discovers that the plane was sabotaged. Are Bailey's stepchildren trying to get rid of her? A typical Howard romantic suspense in some ways and recommended for her fans. Also for fans of survival stories if they don't mind a somewhat explicit romance thrown in. Bailey's husband leaves her in charge of his two adult children's trust fund on his death. Escaping from their greed and scheming, Bailey decides to take a vacation but it doesn't turn out exactly as planned...Her plane goes down in mountain wilderness and she must help herself and pilot Cam Justice survive and return to confront whoever attempted to kill her. Story was somehwat predictable but I enjoyed reading about what Bailey went through to survive. I found the story ended too soon. See more of my reviews at http://myobsessionwithbooks.blogspot.... Bailey Wingate’s adult stepchildren, Tamzin and Seth, hate her and won’t let her forget it. Their father married Bailey only to put her in charge of his fortune and to manage his untrustworthy children’s trust fund. A year later Bailey is looking forward to a white-water rafting vacation with her brother and his wife, who she is planning to meet in Denver. On her way to Denver, in a private plane piloted by Cam Justice, experienced pilot and part-owner of the flight charter business, the plane nearly crashes and they are left stranded in the mountainous wilderness with Cam injured. Bailey, who had safeguarded her emotions for a long time, is drawn to Cam as they get to know each other over the next days of dwindling odds to stay alive, when they realize that they are on their own and rescue unlikely. Up Close and Dangerous is a quick and entertaining, if somewhat formulaic and safely plotted read, with enough suspense to keep the pages turning, but perfect for one of those drifty and mindless days where a predictable story is just right. There is a nice little twist at the end that was surprising, although it felt a bit rushed. Overall, this story was reminiscent of Linda Howard’s earlier entries, but not up to her best. LINDA HOWARD USED TO BE A FAVORITE.....I GLOMMED ALL HER BOOKS. EVERY SINCE SHE QUIT THE ROMANCE MARKET AND ATTEMPTED CUTESY ROMANTIC SUSPENSE, SHE'S GONE DOWN HILL AT AN EVER INCREASING RATE. I'VE ACTUALLY SKIPPED BUYING THE LAST 2-3 AND ONLY BOUGHT THIS ONE BECAUSE IT WAS $2.89 (INCLUDING SHIPPING). THE WHOLE STORY IS A BORE. BORING CHARACTERS, BORING SEX, BORING SUSPENSE LINE. I'M OFFICIALLY GIVING UP ON HER. WHEN I NEED A LINDA HOWARD FIX, I'LL REREAD "MACKENZIE'S MOUNTAIN". "A LADY OF THE WEST", "A GAME OF CHANCE". "MIDNIGHT RAINBOW", OR ANY OF HER OLDER BOOKS. "SON OF THE MORNING" WAS ANOTHER GREAT ONE. WHAT DRIVEL. no reviews | add a review
