Hello Jenn,
Update regarding your 'angel' request for Jigs and Reels: good news; it has been accepted but won't be sent until (maybe) the end of next week. I am so happy as I wasn't sure if we would get a reply, and so soon! So I don't mind the delay, and I don't think you will either - yes? :)
I'll send you a notification when it arrives...
Happy Holidays
~Lyn
Did you get an ER book? I was passed over. Well, here's hoping you had better luck than I.
I just got my SantaThing books in the mail today! Thanks so much! I'm really looking forward to reading them, you made such great choices. Merry Christmas!
Thanks for trying to AngelMooch the Stewart O'Nan book for me - I appreciated you looking for it for me :)

Thanks for the interesting libraries add. I'm going to poke around your library and see if I can't make my bookmooch wishlist longer ;-)
Hi, Jenn!

I've been a librarian only since April 2007 (I came to the profession very late--I got my BA in 1975 and my MLIS in 2006, and going back to school after so long a gap ... so not a breeze!). If you enjoy reading YA lit, recommending books to teens (or their parents), and doing programs for them, then you'll probably like being a YA librarian. I don't really care for programming (mortal sin!), but I've loved reading YA books since I was a YA myself (an eon ago), and readers advisory is one of the best aspects of my job. From what you wrote, it'll be your favorite part as well.

The other aspect I most enjoy is collection development--when there's money for materials (you may find yourself digging into your own not-so-deep pockets to replace those missing volumes from a popular manga series if you're a completist junkie, as I am). There's never time enough to read all the new (or even "old") YA books that keep coming out, so I'm constantly playing catch-up. It's fun, though. Although librarianship is supposedly mainly about helping people find information in this digital age, for me a library's still all about the books (I'm old).

I hope you'll join our ranks and help more kids appreciate stories. It's always a joy to see young people walking out of the branch with piles (or a handful) of books or just sitting in the aisle reading manga and graphic novels--and knowing that the YA collection's pretty OK then :-).

(Pardon this very long screed!)

I think it's because I like so much fantasy and horror. If I liked chick lit, I don't think my library would be so black. There are some people on LT that TAG by color. If you search by 'blue' or 'red' you'll see them. And then if you click on that and select 'cover view' they're all arranged. So it's like doing what I did with my shelves, but in the virtual world. Kind of neat.

I have an LT friend that believes that books will expand to fit any space they're stored in.
Let's do The Neverending Story in July. That way, if other people want to join in and they're doing the Oct-to-Oct timeframe, it won't be too late.
What do you think?
Hi Jenn,

I'm afraid I've just had a rejection through for The Court of Air- the owner has now permanently closed her account. I guess it's not a big surprise, but I'm sorry that waiting it out didn't help. Better luck next time!

Stef
Thanks for stopping by 1010 thread. Cindy and I were thinking of reading Storm Front early January. Is that okay with you?
I've reserved them all for you in my inventory to mooch at your convenience. I'm a bit backed up with mooches, so it may take me a week to a week and a half to send them out.
I have Series of Unfortunate Events #s 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, and 10 in hardcover and #5 in softcover. Someone else has also asked for #2, in case it shows as mooched, but I have an additional copy which I will list if you say you want it.
Those are the two that I requested! We're competitors....uh, kindred spirits!
Sarah Addison Allen book in the ER list this month! Woo Hoo! Did you request it?
Hi Jenn,

I hadn't realised that it's been almost a month since I requested The Court of Air for you- sorry about that! I've just sent a reminder, as I haven't heard anything since the mooch was initially accepted, but looking at the giver's history, I'm not overly confident we're ever going to get a response. I don't mind waiting as I'm not short on points, but let me know if/when you get fed up with waiting and want me to cancel.

Stef
Definitely readable. I'll list it now for you

P.S. Have you seen Baen Free Library yet?

Sorry... well, sorta at least. Fantasy, yes? :)

Based on your Talk membership, you get far more ARCs than I do.
Love David Wellington. I'm in the middle of two of his series. 13 bullets and 99 coffins are about vampires. 99 coffins was first-rate! Monster Island and Monster Nation are about Zombies. I loved Monster Island but didn't care that much for Nation. I've heard he's also going to do werewolves, so whatever floats your boat.

I love Michael Parks. Also Amy Brown, do you like her?

999 challenge is just a group of people trying to stretch ourselves so we don't read the same stuff all the time. You choose 9 categories (they can be anything, fiction, non-fiction, books my Mom likes, books about Africa, etc) and then read 9 books in each of those categories all in 2009. We're a chatty bunch and there's always a lot of recommendations. I love LT for the community. You're very welcome to join us!
I was just noticing what an interesting mix of books we share.
Hey Belladonna, thanks for stopping by to tell me about Hoffmann. Actually, I adore Wuthering Heights so it might work out. But if I don't like it, I won't hold it against her. I'll definitely read Practical Magic, others have recommended it to me recently. Any other authors you think I should look into?
Yay for birthdays and books! Ummm...I mean birthdays and presents!
You still have 100 more books than I do. ;o)
Have you scanned in your birthday presents yet?
Wow! 901 books. Impressive. ;o) I bet know that you've got them all scanned in you want to buy even more! My cuecat needs to hurry up and get here so I can scan mine and see what my total comes to.
